It’s finally time for the new Avatar. It has been officially revealed that an animated series based on the saga of the Earth Avatar after Korra would be released on Paramount+ in 2025. It is presently uncertain whether it will be available to watch on Nickelodeon or if the series’ original creators will be engaged in the project.

More updates are on their way.

The first season of Avatar: The Last Airbender began on Nickelodeon on February 21, 2005, and lasted until July 19, 2008. The franchise will celebrate its 18th anniversary next year.

The Legend of Korra, the sequel series, aired from April 14, 2012, until December 19, 2014, and will celebrate its 9th anniversary next year. It has now been announced that the next Avatar series, which will focus on the Earth Avatar who would succeed Korra in the Avatar Cycle, will begin in 2025.

According to the series’ lore, the Avatar Cycle follows the four elements of fire, water, earth, and air and repeats in that sequence whenever the current Avatar dies and is reincarnated. The next Avatar series has an official release date of 2025, but it is probable that it will come after many of the other projects that Avatar Studios is working on.

It is also unknown when the series will take place in the larger Avatar timeframe. The Legend of Korra took place 70b years after the end of the original series, thus this series may take place at a comparable time in the future, give or take a few decades. This would bring the next Avatar series’ era pretty close to our own, as the Legend of Korra is meant to be equal to the 1920s.

Avatar Gaang as Adults - Avatar Studios Art

Avatar Studios is a production business announced by Paramount+ on February 21, 2021, and co-launched by Nickelodeon with the original creators of Avatar: The Last Airbender, Bryan Konietzko and Michael Dante DiMartino. They both act as co-chief creative officers for the company, with the purpose of acquiring new animation content from the greater AVatar universe, including as series, movies, and spin-offs.

The first of these will be an animated theatrical picture focusing on the “Gaang” in their adult years, with the “Gaang” being the original Team Avatar from Avatar: The Last Airbender. Aang, Katara, Sokka, Zuko, Toph, Suki, Momo, and Appa are the members. The film will be released on October 10, 2025.

Unrelated to Avatar Studios, Netflix is also working on a live-action adaptation of the original Avatar: The Last Airbender series, which is set to debut next year.
