Musa Keys has won his case against Electromode Records and will collect R463 050.30

Musa Makamu prevails in his lawsuit against the Electromode record label.

Musa Makamu, the musician’s real name, signed a distribution deal with the label on April 4, 2021, but he was hit with a R700,000 charge for allegedly breaching the contract in 20233.

The distribution arrangement was supposed to expire after 36 months, with the musician having the option to renew it for another 12 months.

According to Sunday World, Musa Keys allegedly violated the contract’s terms and conditions, so he gave a notice to cancel the deal on May 3, 2022.

The Johannesburg High Court decided that Electromode/Ingrooves must pay Musa Keys R463 050.30.

Musa Keys’ notice of cancellation was deemed to be invalid in response to a counter-application.

He is also required to fulfill his commitments under the April 4, 2021, exclusive distribution deal.

Musa Keys was required by the distribution deal to furnish Electromode/Ingrooves with their sound recordings, cinematographic videos, album cover artwork, and any other artwork or photographs.

“Digital information [metadata] conveying information regarding any of the sound recordings and/or cinematographic films, such as the names of the artists, authors and composers, the artist biography, the title of the album, the name of the song, the name of the record company,” Examine the newspapers.

Electromode was ordered to pay both parties’ legal fees, but the first remedy petition was dropped.
