Terrace Martin and Leon Bridges have collaborated on “Sweeter,” a new tune written from the perspective of a black guy breathing his last breath and experiencing his spirit leave his body. He wrote and recorded the song for an upcoming album, but he decided to release it now in light of recent events.

“Growing up in Texas, I personally encountered racism, as did my friends,” Leon explains. “We are educated from youth how to behave when we approach police in order to avoid the penalties of being racially profiled. I’d been numb for far too long, calloused to the issue of police violence. George Floyd’s death was the straw that broke the camel’s back for me. It was the first time I had shed tears for a man I had never met. My name is George Floyd, and my brothers and sisters are also named George Floyd. I can’t and won’t be silent any longer. Just like Abel’s blood was calling out to God, George Floyd is crying out to me.”
