The United States has been protesting police brutality and the death of George Floyd for more than a week. Some of those protests have taken the form of songs, with Eric Bellinger being the most recent to produce a record criticizing the present climate. Based on the artwork, “Enough” offers a powerful message, as he uses his voice to raise awareness on these concerns and perhaps spark change in those who listen.
He had the following to say about the new song:
“So many emotions. So many feelings. So much hurt. So much pain. So much sadness. It’s a shame we have to fear the ones that are meant to protect us. Who do we call when the help brings us harm? We as a people are outraged. We must come together as one human race. We gotta figure out a way to get rid of all the racist cops. The job training must be more rigorous. The background checks must go deeper in the searches. Check the family history. Check their school records. Check their intention. Check their mental space. Check their spirits. Good cops… You must hold the unjust accountable… I’ve hated driving my entire life simply because of the fact that I know I’m a target. Too many times I’ve gotten pulled over for no reason and feared for my life. I know I’m not alone in this. When will it stop? How many more innocent black lives do we have to lose? We’re crying for help. Enough is Enough!!! I’m not sure what it’s gonna take and when it’s gonna stop but I had to take a moment to speak out and express myself the only way I know how. By writing a song. Thank you @soufwestmusic for producing this track for me to get this message off of my chest. And thank you @jmaurice_art for capturing such a heartfelt cover art. Showcasing the racism that has gone on for far too long!”
